Well, let's travel back in time to Memorial Day weekend of this Year. A Brand New, fun, exciting, and yummy event is taking place. For the very first Year The Westmont Lions Club and The Westmont Jaycees jointly were putting on a fun BBQ compition and Memorial Day Celebration. During Memorial Day weekend 2007, in Ty Warner Park in Westmont, Illinois, real really big Holiday Celebration was taking place.
This event combined food, music, entertainment, games for the kiddies, etc to create one heck of a way to ring in Memorial Day.
Of course first and foremost, We want to recognize The True Meaning of Memorial Day, which is honoring all those brave men and women the made the ultimate sacrifice for Their Country. We want to pay tribute and remember of those Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, etc who did not make it back. Who are not here to enjoy a Hot Dog from The Grill. Who are not here this weekend. But their spirit will live on in all of us.
This event this weekend, was deemed - The Red, White and BBQ. A chance to have some fun, such as music, food, beer, etc, but at The same time remembering the true meaning of this weekend.
This event served as a BBQ Compition. A proclamation by The Governor made this contest an official state competition and the grand champion of this event can go on to National BBQ events. This competition was officially sanctioned by The Kansas City Barbeque Society. One of the biggie when it comes to BBQ Competition.
There was over 30 teams competing in this contest. 30 professional teams from around The Midwest come to compete. Whether they be restaurants, or just professional cooking teams, they all came to get a crack at Title of Grand Champion. There was 1 to 10th place in four individual competitions. There was four meats teams could place in. Chicken, Pulled Pork, Beef Brisket and of course ribs. Plus there was a Grand Champion, witch was a contest for the best overall BBQ. The Kansas City Barbeque Society overseen all aspects of the contest.
Also at the event was a classic car show, musicial entertainment, food vendors, games for the kiddies, Non-Profit Community Groups there with information and just a fun environment for a nice Memorial day cook-out.
