St. Scholastica Parish & School
Mardi Gras Festival
2007
Well , this month We celebrate Easter, but back in February 2007,
there was a great celebration taking place. As We all know lent is a
forty-day period before Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday. We skip
Sundays when we count the forty days, because Sundays commemorate
the Resurrection. Lent began on February 21 2007 and will end on
April 7 2007, which is the day before Easter.
In the Roman Catholic Church, Lent
officially ends at sundown on 5 April
(Holy Thursday), with the beginning
of the mass of the Lord’s Supper.
Lent is a season of soul-searching and repentance. It is a season for
reflection and taking stock. Lent originated in the very earliest days of the Church as a preparatory time for Easter, when the faithful rededicated themselves and when converts were instructed in the faith and prepared for baptism. By observing the forty days of Lent, the individual Christian imitates Jesus’ withdrawal into the wilderness for forty days. All churches that have a continuous history extending before AD 1500 observe Lent. The ancient church that wrote, collected, canonized, and propagated the New Testament also observed Lent, believing it to be a commandment from the apostles.
And before this reflection time, there is a time of celebration just
before Lent. Mardi Gras is a celebration that includes music, dancing, entertainment, etc. Mardi Gras is mainly celebrated in New Orleans
Louisiana, but is celebrated all over the world as well.
Well, St. Scholastica Church and School in Woodridge,
Illinois is bringing a little piece of New Orleans to The
Chicagoland Community.
For the second Year in a row St Scholastica Parish
and School has been putting on a fun-filled two day
Mardi Gras Celebration. This Mardi Gras Festival included
Entertainment, Dinner, a Casino, Raffles and much much more.
This event was as much of a fun -raiser, as it was a fund-raiser. Yes, while this two day event was fundraiser for the St. Scholastica. They wanted this to be a fun-raiser for The Community. A chance to have some clean wholeness fun and at the same time support St. Scholastica.
This event included a large Casino with all the dealers being volunteers
and church parishioners. A delicious dinner was provided as well.
Also there was tons and tons of entertainment.
Rooms in St. Scholastica were transformed
into New Orleans style Night Clubs. With all
these clubs having entertainment and several
rooms, serving as a Coffee bar, Martini Bar, etc.
Each room was given a authentic New Orleans Name
and transformed into a piece of the Bayou.
Entertainment included musical acts, vocal performers, individual
performers, ethnic dancing etc.
Also at this event was a Alumni Gathering for St Scholastica School.
A reunion for all graduating classes at St. Scholastica School. Many
former students of the school were able to come back for one heck
of a reunion, at such a fun event.
St. Scholastica Church is a Roman Catholic
